What EXIF can reveal

A photo can carry details you did not mean to share

Cameras, phones, and editing software can store capture details in EXIF and related metadata containers. Check the actual findings before deciding whether to share a copy.

  1. GPS coordinates

    When location tagging is enabled, a photo can include latitude, longitude, and sometimes altitude.

  2. Capture time

    Date and time fields can show when an image was created or changed, including time-zone details in some files.

  3. Camera and software

    Make, model, lens, exposure settings, serial fields, and editing software may identify the capture workflow.

  4. Author and rights

    EXIF and related IPTC or XMP records can include creator names, copyright notices, and contact details.

Removal scope

A supported-container strip, not selective EXIF editing

This page uses the same lossless image cleaner as the main tool. It removes supported metadata containers together so the result is predictable and can be re-scanned.

Removed

Supported EXIF, IPTC, XMP, PNG text, AI workflow data, and possible C2PA/JUMBF containers are removed. Possible provenance markers require your consent first.

Preserved

JPEG scans, PNG IDAT, and WebP image chunks remain byte-for-byte unchanged. ICC profiles and decode-essential structures are preserved.

Not selective

You cannot remove only GPS while keeping the rest of EXIF. Use the Viewer first if you need to inspect fields before cleaning.

The tool shows supported findings, writes a new copy, and re-scans that output with the same engine before download.

    Inspect the supported metadata

    The browser identifies the real file signature and reads supported EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, text, workflow, and provenance markers locally.

    Strip supported containers

    A new file is written without the supported metadata containers. Your original file stays unchanged.

    Re-scan the output

    Download opens only after the output has been checked again. The report separates removed, preserved, and unverified items.

Scope and limits

Supported formats and important boundaries

This is a focused raster-image tool. It does not claim universal metadata removal or handle every image format.

Supported
JPEG, PNG, and static WebP, up to 5 files and 25 MB per file. Files are identified by binary signature, not just extension or MIME type.
Not supported
HEIC, RAW, animated WebP, GIF, video, audio, and Office documents. Pixel-level watermarks, SynthID, steganography, and visual classifier signals are outside metadata-container removal.
JPEG Orientation
For Orientation values 2 through 8, the default setting rebuilds a minimal Orientation-only EXIF segment so the photo displays correctly. Untick it if you do not want that tag rebuilt.

What the result does and does not prove

These answers separate supported metadata removal from broader privacy claims the tool cannot verify.

Does this EXIF remover remove every kind of metadata?
No. It removes the supported EXIF, IPTC, XMP, PNG text, AI workflow, and possible C2PA/JUMBF containers detected by this tool. ICC profiles and decode-essential structures are preserved. Pixel-level signals and unknown or unsupported structures may remain.
Will removing EXIF change image quality?
The cleaner does not re-encode the compressed image data. JPEG scans, PNG IDAT, and WebP image chunks remain byte-for-byte unchanged, while supported metadata containers are rewritten around them.
Are the photos sent to a processing server?
No. Photos selected for this workflow are read and rewritten on your device. They are not sent to a processing API or remote file storage.
Can I remove only GPS and keep the rest of EXIF?
No. This cleaner removes supported metadata containers as a group. Open the Metadata Viewer first if you need to inspect the fields, or use the Image Metadata Editor to write a limited fresh XMP description set.
What happens if possible Content Credentials are found?
The tool uses conservative C2PA/JUMBF marker detection, not cryptographic validation. It explains that the supported provenance container may be removed or detached and requires your explicit consent before continuing.
Why can an output JPEG still contain an Orientation tag?
By default, Orientation values 2 through 8 are rebuilt in a minimal Orientation-only EXIF segment so the image does not display sideways. Untick Keep orientation tag if you do not want this minimal segment rebuilt.
